Shelly Sexton Obituary

Shelly Kay Sexton, age 61 passed away peacefully at home March 21, 2024 due to bone cancer, with her husband, kids, family and friends surrounding her.

She was born June 13, 1962 to Robert Lee King and Thlema (Battenfield) Dibler in Tahlequah, OK and raised in Harrah, OK.

She married her longtime friend and love Dewayne Sexton on October 9, 2021. A devoted, dedicated wife and mother to April and Whitney first and foremost. She loved her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Mammy, whether it was attending sporting events, class parties, or sleep overs, the main thing was spending quality time with her precious grandchildren.

Shelly was a well-known hairdresser for over 43 years and a personal ‘Counselor/Therapist’ to all of her many special customers. She absolutely loved being a hairdresser and making new friends. She made friends everywhere she went and her many lifetime customers, at her beauty salon, loved her as well.

She had a vivacious personality and always made people around her laugh. Other hobbies included having a green thumb for planting flowers and decorating for holidays, re-purposing furniture and crafting. She was very talented at making floral arrangements. She absolutely loved decorating the horses and wagons with her and her husband’s carriage business.

She LOVED dancing!! And What Style she had and she was an excellent cook and loved baking. Shelly practiced a life of always trying to do what is right, being kind and helpful to others. Shelly was a member of the Crosscut Cowboy Church in Byng, OK and loved going on Sundays with Dewayne and also loved the ladies and friends she made there. Faithful her entire life, A child of God and Never Ever Wavered from her Faith, even going through this painful bone cancer, she never wavered from her Faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her precious granddaughter, Keeleigh Dawn Cox .

Survived by her husband, Dewayne Sexton, of Maud; daughter, April Crockett and son-in-law, Mike Nicely, of Tecumseh; daughter, Whitney Cox and son-in-law, Timmy Davis of Chandler; Grandchildren; Karleigh Coates and husband Tristen, of Tecumseh, Dax and David Crockett, Cooper Nicely, Tinsleigh Cox and Tate Davis, and Makyla Benge, Drake and Peyton Clemmons, and Greyson Shelton; sisters, Terri and husband, Bob Cook of OKC, Bernice Dibler of Harrah; son, Mike Smith of Maud; nieces, Lacy Shelton and Courtney Pierce, Rachelle and Ryan Lehman; nephew, Hunter Lehman; sister-in-law, Diane Cunningham; stepchildren, Stacy Oldenburg & husband Jason of Maud, Jaycee, Cooper, Hank, Clayton Sexton and wife Kelly of Tecumseh, Reece, Brody, Rylie, Hilary Peters and husband Daniel of Marlow, Coltor and Drake; and numerous other close friends and especially the "Red Hot Lollipop Sistas".

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, March 25, 2024 with family present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to greet friends and family at Cooper Funeral Home. Service will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at Sharon Baptist Church with Reverend Clint Dawkins, Sharon Baptist Church and Pastor Dan Megehee, of Crosscut Cowboy Church officiating. Burial will follow at Dale Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
